We have an exciting announcement!
Carpet Cleaning Conundrums
Google ‘carpet cleaning company’ and you get something like 36 million results. A search for ‘carpet cleaning’ in New Zealand on Finda.co.nz gives 3,441.
So how do you go about choosing just one? Close your eyes and point at the screen? Not likely to get you the best carpet care for your dollar.
It’s important you’re careful who you let loose on your new carpet, because pretty much anybody can go out, purchase a carpet-cleaning machine, and start marketing themselves as a professional carpet cleaner. Scary stuff!
However, if you know what you’re looking for in a carpet cleaning firm, you can easily cut down on the risk of getting poor service. Here are a few tips:
1. When you find a company you think looks reputable, contact them and ask if they can tell you a bit about the IICRC. The IICRC, or ‘Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification’ serves as “the Industry Guardian for the cleaning, inspection and restoration service industries for more than 30 years.” Ideally, all professional carpet cleaners should be IICRC certified. If the company you’re considering can’t tell you anything about the IICRC, or can’t confirm that the person who will be cleaning your carpet will be certified, move on to another firm.
2. Do a quick Internet search on any companies that catch your eye, and possibly a second search including the word ‘review’, for example ‘Ace Carpet Cleaning Review’. This might turn up valuable info, good or bad, from previous customers.
3. Check out the company’s hiring practices on their website. Do they perform background checks on their employees?
4. Ask about the cleaning process the company uses. At a bare minimum, they should pre-vacuum the house to remove any loose dirt and fluff, pre-spot stains with approved cleaning agents, pre-spray all areas to be cleaned with dirt-loosening agents, then clean the carpet using steam or hot water extraction. When they’re finished, they’ll also need to groom the carpet to re-align all the fibres.
5. Finally, ask what kind of workmanship guarantee they offer.
This might seem like a lot of work, but really it’s just a few quick questions – and if you’ve got reservations … well, there are just a couple of thousand other providers a phone call away who would love have your business!
